History of the Class of 1930
Unknown Author

We the Seniors of 1930, feeling our duty to posterity and to ghe future generation of students have hereby chronciled our history, which, we hope, will be a guide to faltering footsteps in the future.
Know you, that in September 1926 there entered G. C. H. S. a very kaleidoscopic group of Freshmen. The spirit of the class was soon manifested by the unanimous and enthusiastic election of
President------------------ Laurence O'Neil
Vice President----------- William Morris
Secretary------------------ Vertie Heyen
Treasuerer---------------- Clifford Radamacker

The class from the start had the nicest habit of winning all ticket sales that came their way. The girls also took second place in athletics.
That year the play "And then the Light Went Out" was given for the entertainment of the upper classmen.
As Sophmores the group became more united in spirit in scholarship and indefatigably partcipated in all important events. The officers at the head of the brilliant group of scholars for this period were :

President------------------ Adolph Fellin
Vice President----------- Peter Duncan
Treas. & Sec. ----------- William Lochrie

Their enviable reputation as ticket sellers and hot dog eaters were upheld. When they were Juniors they decided that a little recreation would not be out of order. Therefore, a backwards party was given and you can imagine the good time that was enjoyed.
However, a dire catastrophe came upon this wonderful class in that year -- they lost a ticket sale. Nevertheless the "Never Say Die" spirit was not lost, and the Junior girls saved the honor of the class by winning the interclass basketball tournament.

This year marked one of the most brilliant days that was ever seen in G. C. H. S.    Yes, the color fight was so magnificient that it became necessary to place a ban on such demonstrations in the future.
Time went on, as time is in the habit of doing, and the Seniors became hungry. Now, this class of Juniors was noted for its sociability so they decided to feed the voracious Seniors -- and at the same time appeal to thier imagination and improve their sense of beauty.
Hard work and sales, all kinds of sales were necessary before their dreams came true, but, in the end they had a novel representation of a scene in Holland. It was the first banquet held in the New Gymnasium and the guests were overwhelmed with the magnificence of service and food.
The following officers who so nobly guided this class through the Junuoir year were retained to steer them through their fourth and last year of school life.

President------------------ William Lochrie
Vice President----------- Ernest Rolando
Sec. & Treas. ----------- Harriet Brent

The Seniors became discontented with the ordinary manner of raising money for school expenses. Ringling Brothers offered an insspiration and late in October a Magnificient Three Ring Circus came to town. Maybe some of the elephants were slightly out of shape and some of their trainers were not as black as they could have been but, at any rate it proved quite a novelty and was well received by the public and students.
Then one morning in April there seemed to be a terrible influx of Hoboes in Gillespie. Tall ones, short ones, fat ones, and lean ones. The police were becoming alarmed when lo and behold a banner appeared, bearing the famous words :

"SEE THE COLLEGE HOBO"

COLONIAL THEATRE

MONDAY APRIL 13

The Hoboes had a wonderfuil time ( as hoboes do ) and thoroughly advertised the greatesty play ever presented on screen or stage.
Age demands its toll! And on a certain May morning the dignified seniors were missing from their accuctomed places. The thrill of Skip Day ( we were sure ) was never felt by any other class as it was keenly enjoyed by the class of 1930.
So with this Class Day, another party, another Junior-Senior banquet, at which we are guests, and Commencement, the history of the CLASS OF 1930 comes to a close --- but the spirit shall live on in our memories.

THE SOPHOMORE PROGRAM

The Sophomore program which was given on
Washington's birthday was both entertaining and
appropriate. It consisted of
      1. "The Minuet" - A dramatized reading by Jessie
Frew and a few other members of the class.
      2. A monologue by Harry Stevenson.
      3. "George Washington and the Cherry Tree"
and "A Modern George Washington." A little playlet
of two scenes.
The Sophoimores are doing fine work this year
and we hope to hear from them again in the near
future.

O. Juanita Mercer.

Janet LOVE and Jessie FREW of Gillespie
